Goblin Valley Overlook

There is no way to describe the sights at Goblin Valley. It is so odd that it makes Bryce Canyon and Arches National Park look like simple sculptures of Nature. The soft dark Entrada Sandstone at this site has eroded into odd hoodoos called "goblins"; ranging from just under man-sized through giant-sized, these sculptures often look like the outlines of rough goblins, but also include fanciful castles, odd-looking arches, and simple balanced rocks.

Goblin Valley has, until recently, been little-known. Its appearance in "Galaxy Quest" appears to be putting this remote site on the tourist map, however. The park is approximately 45 minutes from Green River, UT (which puts it a reasonable 1.5 hours from Moab and Arches National Park), but lies off the main highway in the middle of BLM lands.

Aside from the hoodoos, the park is exceptionally convenient to the San Rafel Swell with its slot canyons and sculptured rock faces.
